MN Duct Pros Asbestos PolicyWe have seen some form of suspect asbestos in roughly 75% of pre 1980s homes. Asbestos isn't too dangerous, unless it is disturbed. We will not clean a home with suspect asbestos until tested and/or remediated. We are in the business of improving air quality, and will not risk anything that may put you, your family, or our team at health risk.
We usually see suspect asbestos it in the form of: A. White Tape used to seal ducting joints B. Duct Insulation on Trunk Line (see #3 and 5 on diagram below)
C. Dampener pad above furnace on top of supply plenum (see #4 on diagram below)
D. Asbestos Duct Connector (see #6 on diagram below
If we do find any signs of asbestos we would need them third party tested and remediated (if positive) before we can safely clean the system. We may be able to take a sample and drop it off at a local lab for testing in some situations. Cost is based on the number of samples. Usually $150 per sample.
A few additional notes:
1. Previously Cleaned Systems: We have seen multiple times where systems containing asbestos were previously cleaned by other companies in the past. Whether they didn't know, didn't notice, or didn't care to look it happens fairly often. 2. Home inspection: We have seen multiple homes where asbestos was either missed or not disclosed. Just because a home had an inspection does not mean that there is no asbestos. A few even had obvious asbestos wrapped trunk lines that were never mentioned. 3. New Furnace and or A/C: Usually when an HVAC company installs a new furnace or coil, they retro fit it to the old ducting. They do not replace the entire duct system, therefore even with multiple furnace replacements we still often find asbestos. |
